One of Setter’s finest project was a private commission to recreate Ely Cathedral as a climbing frame for a landowner near Ely, who was redeveloping their farmland to create a retail park.

It was one of my favourite types of meetings; a visionary with an interesting brief that challenged our design team and also invited us to research the historical and architectural features of the original cathedral, to be as true-to-inspiration as possible, whilst also adding in a huge amount of play value and ensuring compliance with the safety standard.

We had loads of fun recreating the Nave’s with climbing nets and climbing walls, as well as an internal bridge through them, and the Lantern that had climbing ropes up the centre of it. The Tower provided a fun lookout over the whole area, with climbing ramps and walls up to it.

This will forever be one of our proudest achievements!

The wider play park was complete with a Trim Trail around the perimeter, and a range of swings…

As well as a smaller climber for toddlers and infants, so everybody can join in the fun.

We loved the shadows in this shot, so reminiscent of the original Cathedral. This project really underlines that Setter Play are one of the most accomplished and capable bespoke playground builders in the UK!
