A great play space starts from the ground up. Children climb, jump, spin and tumble, and the surface beneath them is doing important work the whole time. Wetpour is a seamless, cushioned rubber surface that is mixed, poured and hand-finished on site. It gives you a play area that is safer, brighter and far easier to look after than bark, grass or bare tarmac.

Setter Play has been designing and building play spaces for schools, nurseries, parish councils and local authorities since 1997. Wetpour is one of the surfaces we’re asked for most, and it’s easy to see why.

Why choose wetpour?

Reduces the risk of injury. The cushioned surface absorbs the impact of falls. Its depth is set to the critical fall height of your equipment, so every area gets the protection it needs.

Durable and long-lasting. Wetpour is built for heavy daily use, from busy break times to weekend visitors, and keeps performing year after year.

Fits almost any design. Because it’s laid by hand, wetpour follows curves, slopes and mounds, fills awkward corners and wraps neatly around equipment posts.

Suitable for all weather. The porous surface lets rainwater drain through, so the play area is usable again soon after a shower and never turns to mud.

Easy to clean. There’s no loose material to rake back or top up. A regular sweep and an occasional wash keep it looking fresh.

Low maintenance. No top-ups and very little upkeep mean lower running costs over the life of your playground.

Seamless and accessible. With no joins or loose edges to trip on, wetpour gives a smooth, continuous surface for wheelchairs, buggies and walking aids, which helps make play areas inclusive.

Colourful, creative and educational

Choose from more than 20 colours. There are bright reds, yellows, oranges, pinks and purples, natural greens and blues, and softer earth tones and greys. There are also blended mixes and black flecked finishes. Colours can be combined and inlaid with shapes and graphics, so the floor itself becomes part of the lesson. Popular designs include:

  • Number lines, hundred squares and times-table grids
  • Alphabet trails and phonics games
  • Compass points and maps
  • Hopscotch, target games and sensory paths
  • Roadway layouts for bikes and scooters
  • Your school logo or colours

Quality you can rely on

  • 5-year guarantee on many of our wetpour surfaces
  • Independently tested to British and European safety standards. It meets the critical fall heights required by BS EN 1176:2018 and the slip resistance requirements of BS 7188.
  • Expert installation by teams trained to the highest professional standards, led by site managers with at least five years’ experience
  • Free site survey with expert advice on the right surface, depth and design for your space

How wetpour is built

Wetpour is a two-layer system. The base layer is made from recycled rubber crumb and does the shock-absorbing work. Its thickness depends on the fall height of the equipment above. On top sits a hard-wearing, coloured EPDM rubber layer, bound with polyurethane resin and trowelled to a smooth finish.

Wetpour can be laid onto a newly prepared base or, where the existing ground is sound, straight over tarmac or concrete, which can reduce groundwork costs.
