Sheerhatch Primary School is just a stones throw away from us, and so we were really pleased to hear that they’d be successful in their grant application, and that Setter had been selected to deliver their new EYFS play area transformation.

The area was a mixture of bare earth, worn grass, and old rubber surfaces, and we took these up in order to install a variety of new surfaces, providing colour, texture and vibrancy to the space.

The centrepiece to the new play area is a sensory pathwway with rubber mulch, block paving, artificial grass and brick paving, leading to their new reading hut, which has external storage to provide space to store all of their pupils outdoor play and learning provisions. Another storage unit sits against the opposite fence.

The space was filled with freestanding provisions to enable their children to re-organise the space as they like, encouraging different focuses and enabling outdoor play and learning.

Grass Stax can be re-arranged to create different balancing trails, encourage balance, co-ordination and spatial awareness development, whilst the tumble bars invite children to hang and swing, boosting their hand-eye co-ordination, grip-and-grasp and upper body strength.

Easel benches encourage creativity, and the upright 10’s frame has number and letter counters for children to begin shape sorting and identifying in line with the curriculum. A mud kitchen stands at the end of the space and can’t wait to be played with!

The reading hut has a weatherproof lining in the roof, to protect their books and other teaching provisions when not in use.

We’re hugely proud of this adorable EYFS play scheme!
