Leagrave School in Luton are expanding into a new building and as part of their plans they commissioned Setter Play to create an all-new play area in their grounds.
Creating a play area from scratch is a really exciting opportunity as we can try and cram as many different outdoor play and learning provisions in as possible! The design includes roadways, swings, trail equipment, and various interactive and sensory panels
An adventure trail leads to a huge bespoke wheelchair-accessible climbing frame, complete with lots of accessible play activities and sensory features for children with limited mobility and vision to enjoy
An outdoor classroom provides an inviting space to take lessons and breaktimes outdoors all year round
A flush-floor roundabout invites children to feel the thrill of spinning and helping them to develop their balance and spatial awareness

The project was a two-parter, with a courtyard area also requiring a complete refresh. This space had more of a focus on sensory activities, with drape posts, musical instruments, a textured pathway and textured panels, for children to explore their different senses.
The space also featured a canopy and a gazebo for outdoor lessons.
We are incredibly proud of this phenomenal play area, on our doorstep! It really demonstrates the expansive offering Setter Play provides when creating special educational needs’ play areas.
